Dear FreshWater Watchers,
We are pleased to announce the release of a new version of the FreshWater Watch app. The app is only available to FWW members and contains some significant updates to both the design and function of the app. The updates are intended to make the app more intuitive and user-friendly, and to reduce the potential for bugs to creep in to the system.
We recommend that all users install the latest version (version 4 for iOS users and version 3.0.11 for Android users).
If you own an earlier version of the app and have any saved records, please upload them before installing the new version. Simply log in with your username and password, tap on the menu, select ‘My records’ and then ‘Saved records’.
The new app is now available from the Apple and Android stores on your mobile device. If your phone does not automatically show that an update is available, please visit the app store to install it. You can find instructions on how to find and install app updates here: https://www.guidingtech.com/check-apps-need-update-iphone-android/
When you log in to the new app, you will see the following screen (NB the green ‘upload a saved record’ button will only appear if you have a previously saved record that has not yet been uploaded):
Create a new record
If you would like to create a new record, press ‘Create a record’. This will take you to the data entry screen (if you are a member of multiple FreshWater Watch groups you will first be asked to select which group you wish to submit data to). You will notice a new button under the ‘geolocation’ field, which asks you to confirm your geolocation. Please press this button at your site – this will automatically log the geolocation, and the button will turn blue to inform you that your location has been confirmed. You can still manually input or edit your location on the website if required.
If you would like to view your recently uploaded records, select ‘My records’ from the home screen (you can access the home screen at any time by pressing the ‘hamburger’ icon in the top right corner).
You can see the feedback on each of your records by tapping on the individual record. If you wish to view the record in full or edit the record, please use the website to do this.
If you have any saved records which have not yet been uploaded, you will see the green ‘Upload a saved record’ button appear on the home screen. If you press this button, you will be taken to the ‘Saved records’ screen. From here, you can upload and delete records.
We are in constant gratitude for the hard work of all of our citizen scientists, and we hope that these updates will make it much easier for you to collect vital measurements and upload them to our global database. If you have any questions or encounter any issues, please get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org.
